The metal beasts that lay scattered all across the lot began to sway a tad bit from the forceful wind. My ears flicked forward in an attempt to stop the flow of air from entering in and cooling my head in an irritating fashion. My nose twitched a bit, picking up the familiar scents in the air.
This day I had managed to pull myself up into one of these RVs by using a couple of abandoned items - a rusty bike, some chairs and other things like that - to use as levers onto the sill of the window. I had reached it with only my upper body and my hind legs had kicked and flailed helplessly, dangling from the entry way I had found. The glass of the window had been pushed upwards, being held up by some unknown force - most likely a lock of some sort. I had then proceeded to use all of my upper body strength to force myself up into the vehicle, leaving scratches in the rusty siding. The window led right up to a counter top of some sort. The surface was slippery and smooth. It took me a few moments of slipping and sliding to finally get a grip of the counter. I concluded this small act by lying down on my belly, my white coated arms stretched in front of me, looking out over the window sill at the world that lay just beyond. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, sounding loudly and echoing in my eardrums. My body heaved a heavy sigh in an attempt to slow my rushing heart rate. It worked, or at least, I didn't notice the thumping in my chest so much anymore. I had finally been able to relax. My eyes slowly closed shut as I swept into a light dreaming state.
My nose twitched uneasily as my ears swiveled forward, listening to the outside noises. I opened one eye lazily, glancing around. There was nothing, from what I could see, that could spark my interest. My excitement died as my expression grew cold and nearly emotionless. As far as I could tell, there was no one out here besides myself.
Climbing to my feet I leaned back, forcing my arms forward as I stretched out my tense and tight muscles. My eyes were glazed over with the sleep I had received. I let out a loud yawn, my purple tongue curling at the base of my widely opened jaws. My ivory teeth glimmered in the afternoon sunlight. The rays felt warm and comforting on my fur. I knew it was wrong of me, I knew it was weird. My kind usually prefers the feeling of the colder climates, disliking the hot, summer days. I thoroughly enjoyed these days. Standing back upright on all fours I shook my body, my fur spinning and coming loose, floating to the ground as my loose skin fluctuated and moved. Once again my purple tongue escaped my maw and licked over my dry, black nose as I glanced almost eagerly over the edge of the window sill in hopes that I may find something, anything that may be of any interest towards me. The hot summer sun bore down on her back as she padded her way into the center of the metal beasts. They swayed as the summer winds hit them making an awful noise that made her hold her ears flat on her head. The stench of the things around her made it near impossible to tell if anyone was near. This wasn't the typical place she would enjoy being but she was sure no one would come here. Well, almost sure.
Looking around her as she came to a halt she looked for a shadowed haven from the hot sun. The metal beasts were hideous and drained of almost all their color. The black rubber rings around the metal was melted or flattened like a two-year-old chew toy. A lot of the windows had been knocked out and glass glistened on the ground. Although the place looked run-down not many doors were open and if they were you wouldn't want to go in them because of the maw that would be waiting for you inside.
Curse the heat and this black pelt!
Chezas black fur soaked up all the suns rays and transfered it into heat which made her pant profusely. Her black tongue lolling out of her mouth as she panted made her seek more desperately for shade. She should have never of come here during the day. Spying a open window with a crude human objects for stepping stones, she trotted over. Sniffing the air she caught a hint of another canine. This could either be a good or bad thing.
Find shade or pass out. Those are your choices.
Either way she was taking the chance of being dog food. Either way she could be in danger. The maw on the other side could be bigger and stronger than her. The huge claw marks proved that they had to struggle to get in so they were bigger. But stronger and smarter? Was this a chance she was willing to take? I haven't given up laying down yet, why start now?
Finding a average height chair Cheza used the seat as leverage to leap noisily into the window, knocking some of the glass down. Shaking some glass shards from her fur, she met eye to eye and nose to nose with a brute of a malamute. Surprised, she tensed and bared her teeth in warning. Keeping her emerald eyes on the brute. She cursed herself for being so naive and not checking better. The metal beast swayed back and forth slightly as she growled, "I wish not to fight you but will not run if it comes down to it. Now, are you friend or foe?"

I scurried back quickly, my fur-covered paws slipping and sliding at my sudden attempt at movement. My hind legs seemed to be caught under me as I moved back and slid down into a sitting position, kicking my rear legs out from under me in all the ruckus and excitement. I could hear my heart pounding with anxiety from this new encounter. My lips parted slightly as I held my surprised expression upon my facial features, filled with excitement and wonder about this new canine.
She had landed right in front of me, so close that we were face to face, practically close enough to be touching one another. She had shaken her body, her pitch black fur moving flawlessly within the movement. It seemed to take her only a brief moment to notice I was within the metal beast of a vehicle as well as herself. A snarl curled upon her lips and I recoiled back, instinctively. Her teeth were bared in a warning that matched her sharp words. "I wish not to fight you but will not run if it comes down to it. Now, are you friend or foe?" |
[/i] I could feel my tail begin to sway anxiously behind me, brushing against the cool top of the counter we were both standing upon. I glanced behind me, craning my neck as I turned my head to look over my shoulder. One more step back and I could have fallen clean off my perch. My attention was quickly brought back towards the angry female. The surprise had nearly vanished from my face and was replaced with yet another emotion, one of curiosity. A goofy smirk plastered itself across my maw as I cocked one of my brows up in some sort of amusement I found out of the situation. I was not the type of canine who would turn and run in the presence of another, nor would I start a fight. I was social and loved the company which was another thing I had added into my list of odd lifestyle choices considering I had chosen to live my life out on my own, exploring the world with no friends nor pack mates to share my adventures with. My tail thumped over the edge of the table top as I began to speak. "Who said anything about a fight?" I smiled convincingly, my black lips parted in a friendly manner. My ears pricked upright, attentive and listening to my surroundings. Even if this truly was a hostile canine, surely she at least deserved a chance at friendship...or a non hostile acquaintanceship. "I, for one, would never start a fight with a fellow canine," I continued, keeping eye contact. "My name is Bowie, by the way."My interest stricken eyes held a story behind them, one I wasn't completely willing to share. My tongue quickly lashed over my nose, licking the dry feature upon the end of my muzzle. My eyes widened a bit in an attempt to show I was friendly and interested for her response.
