To Kill a Mockingbird (Koda)

[atrb=background,http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz262/xmissnovax/body.png] a breeze ripped through the long grass, making it lap at the stillness of my legs. i smiled, and rose my head. the breeze felt good as it rippled my silky fur. i yawned, and stretched a bit, sighing as i rose to my full height once more. my stomach growled, and i gazed through the tall grass for any sight of movement. i was starving, and i was looking for a mouse or something. a tiny movement caught my eye, and i lowered into a hunter's crouch, and pounced. the small field mouse saw me coming, and scurried out of the way before i had time to snatch it up for a nice snack. i cursed the animal silently, my words drifting away, and blending with the wind. i was starving, and i really wanted some food. the old radio station was usually crawling with rats and mice, but for once, it wasn't. it must be too hot outside... i shrugged, and padded into the shadow of the old and run-down building. i stretched, yawned, and laid down, hoping some prey animal would be stupid enough to cross my path, and would be an easy kill. now all i had to do was wait...

[Koda]

Koda ran as fast as he could through the tall grass, loving the feel of the wind in his fur. His legs pumped as fast as they could, carrying him closer and closer to the old radio station building that he had seen from a distance and instantly wanted to explore. His pawsteps slowed as he got closer to the building, the shadowy walls looking a bit more intimidating than they had from far away. No matter, he was brave, he could do this. Taking a deep breath he padded towards the building, his tongue hanging out of his mouth as he panted, trying to catch his breath after his long sprint. As he came closer to the building's entrance he decided he probably shouldn't go in just yet so instead he skirted around the side of it, his light blue eyes looking up at the building next to him. Suddenly, Koda looked down and saw a female dog laying in the grass, to avoid stepping on her, he lept over her awkwardly before falling on the way back down to the earth. A startled yip escaped the pup's muzzle as he landed but he quickly got up and shook himself off, getting the dust off of his coat. Turning around to face the female, he suddenly realized he had almost tripped over the new Alpha Female!
"Excuse your excellent royal alpha ma'am lady. I didn't mean to almost kinda trip over you." He stammered quickly, unsure of what she would do.
Quickly he lowered the front half of his body to the ground, bowing deeply and remaining there for a long time, waiting for her to say something to him, possibly even kick him out of the pack for almost hurting her.

[atrb=background,http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz262/xmissnovax/body.png] i stood up and yawned as the pup spoke. excuse your excellent royal alpha ma'am lady. i didn't mean to almost kinda trip over you. i chuckled lightly at what he had said. it was alright. i softly smiled at him, and bent down to his level. i recognized his smell from the pack meeting. he was koda, the little pup who was a regular pack member. i smiled again, and spoke gently. hi koda, it's okay. no harm done here. and just call me nova. i giggled, and sat down on my hindquarters, smiling at the pup. he reminded me of dangle in a way, and i knew dangle had been mentoring him for a while. i shook my fur out, and stretched a bit. dangle and i had high hopes for this pup when he grew older. he and i treated him like our own, and this was practice for when our pups are born. my belly was slightly swollen, but not really showing any major signs of pregnancy, and no one else in the pack knew really, that dangle and i were expecting. i blinked, bringing myself to look back at the pup. i smiled again politely, waiting patiently for a reply.

Koda took a deep breath when she replied, letting him know it was no big deal that he had almost stepped on her. He rose up from his bow, shuffling his paws in the dirt a bit before raising his eyes from his paws to look at the pretty alpha female. It was no surprise that Dangle would pick her to be his alpha female. After all, she was pretty and easy to get along with and well liked. She was definitely a good choice for alpha female.
Koda tilted his head to one side a little as he looked the female up and down. Something seemed different about her but he couldn't quite put his paw on it. Though he had only seen her once before, and that was at the meeting, something still seemed new. Maybe it was just the fact that she wasn't standing up in front of the whole pack like she had been at the meeting. Koda thought about that being the answer but that still didn't seem right either.
She just seemed very relaxed and happy. She reminded him of his mother. That was it! She must be pregnant! But of course Koda wouldn't just come straight out and ask her that. She may want to keep it a secret from the pack or something. Who knew what a female was thinking. He cleared his throat before finally speaking.
"So. . . Nova. . . you and Dangle must be happy together. . . so happy in fact that you might have pups. . . ya know. . . some day. . ." Koda hit himself in the face with his paw for making what he was trying to say sound so stupid. Sitting down, his shoulders sagging because he had failed at his attempt to get the answer out of her without directly asking her. Hopefully he wouldn't get in trouble for asking her that. Did females get offended if you asked them if they were pregnant? Was it like the whole asking a female their weight thing? Koda wasn't sure but he sure hoped it was the same or else he was in a world of hurt.

[atrb=background,http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz262/xmissnovax/body.png] i giggled as the pup spoke. he looked to my swollen belly, and i lifted one of my front paws. my pink tongue lolled out of my mouth as a breeze blew to ruffle my flowing fur. i looked to koda, and smiled sweetly. has dangle been mentoring you? i looked down and licked my paw. my stomach growled slightly, and i sighed. i looked to koda again. how about you go out and find me some prey, and i will assess you on what you have learned? i smiled, teaching the pup, and getting a meal out of it aswell. i stretched my white paws out in front of me, and yawned. i sighed, and laid down in triumph, waiting for a reply from the pup. i thought about him growing up, and loving one of my pups; a female of course. and then they can take over mine and dangle's rule when we age. i smiled slightly, and looked to the pup again.

Koda raised his head and looked at her stomach that was obviously swollen. He gave a bashful grin in return before rising to his paws, his ears pricking forward as he listened to her instructions. His tail began to wag as she instructed him to go and catch her some prey. He was eager to show her his new hunting skills he had learned from Zaira when he had first met her.
Koda nodded to the alpha female before heading off in search of some prey. It didn't take long before a bird chirping nearby caught his attention but the sight of a fawn nearby made him change his course and head in it's direction. The fawn would be a better meal for the alpha female, especially since she had more than just herself to feed.
Crouching low to the ground but not low enough that the grass brushed his belly, he crept towards his prey, his tail remaining out of the way and motionless. His light blue gaze remained locked on the fawn and he made sure to only move towards it when it's head was lowered and it was eating at the grass. Finally he was close enough that he leapt at the deer and landed sqaurely on it's back, knocking it to the ground and killing it with a swift bite to the neck.
Koda drug his catch over to Nova and sat it down in front of her, a bloody grin on his face from his kill. Only then did he remember that she had asked him if Dangle had been training him so he quickly responded.
"Yes ma'am. Dangle has been training me. And I would love for you to assess me so far." He replied, licking the blood from his muzzle and then sitting down, patiently letting her eat before she would begin his assessement.
