Small white paws carried the 6 months old Beagle pup out of the harsh sun that beat down upon her ragged looking coat. Once a beautiful and outgoing babe, neglect and being near starvation had turned this little creature into a shell of the dog she could have grown into. Now it was uncertain if she would grow at all. She had gone nearly 2 weeks without food and had lived off the scraps of kills made by other dogs. Most of the time she could go without being noticed at a kill, eat her fill and be gone as quickly as she came. But that was not always the case and Peaches had the scars and wound to prove it. A sharp claw or vicious jaw was usually the punishment for intruding but it seemed that no one could put this poor beast out of it's misery.
Having been abandoned by her mother at just 2 months old, Peaches was briefly cared for by a kind dog but one day she had put her in a patch of grass to wait as she hunted for them, but she never came back. At 3 months old, Peaches was alone in the world again and no one wanted her. The tender soul that she had once possessed was stating to become hardened, careless. She had no reason to live and didn't seek one. To her, the world was cruel but still there was a sliver of hope somewhere in that tiny body that someone would come alone, take her home to a proper pack with them and they could pretend like none of this had ever happened.
As Peaches sought the shade of the old building, she laid down inside the door from sheer exhaustion, losing the will to get back up. With wounds oozing, ribs showing through her ragged coat and glassy eyes, it would be easy for a passerby to mistake this little beast for another casualty of the harsh city.

Duke
The secret side of me, I never let you see, I keep it caged but I can't control it. So stay away from me, the beast is ugly, I feel the rage and I just can't hold it...
.xXx. At first, the Doberman had thought the little frail body to be that of a dead and unnoticed puppy. He questioned his theory though, with the conclusion it wouldn’t have gone unnoticed, unless recently perished. Duke walked slowly towards the small pup from down the hallway, the musky scents of the Hospital entering his nostrils, letting him take in the foul stench of death and despair. The brute loved the Hospital, for all of the reasons above. It reminded him of everything he’d experienced, and everything he had to be proud of. That was why he enjoyed the rather filthy place. The stench of death was comforting.
But that wasn’t what he was currently focused on.
Slowly, Duke inhaled, lowering his head to barely graze his chin against the ground. In that aware position, he walked closer to the fragile-looking corpse, dead, expressionless eyes running over the pathetic looking figure. And then, as he edge closer, he saw the familiar little rise and fall of the animal’s ribcage, no matter how feint. And as Duke came to realise this, a rather sudden pang of urgency hit him. The need to help the little creature before him, who hadn’t even gotten a chance at life overwhelmed him. It was only months old. The Doberman nudged the pup lightly with his nose, unsure of how to act in such a situation. He was no Mother, and therefore he had no idea what a pup was to eat. But he supposed it would deal as best it could with what Duke would provide. The large male sniffed at the puppy once more, detecting no scents of any other dogs.
“Stay put.”
Duke spoke gruffly, his head jerking upwards, as he searched desperately for some sign of an easy catch. The Doberman truly doubted the pup had any plans on moving, or that he actually could, but he felt the need to say something. Wouldn’t it be slightly comforting? Not that Duke was at all the type of brute to sound comforting... Slowly, Duke shook his head, before heading off down the hall, in search of one of his recent kills. He was just confusing himself. The Doberman’s head sunk down to align itself with his head, as he rounded a nearby corner. And then, the sight of a half-devoured rabbit corpse was seen, and he started off in a run, scooping the body up into his jaws, before turning, and racing back towards the pup. His nails clattered against the floor as he turned the corner, and Duke dropped the torn apart animal near the pup.
“Eat.”
Duke said simply, his voice harsh and serious, like normal. The Doberman bent down, placing a sturdy paw on the rabbit corpse, before pulling at a large chunk of meat, and successfully ripping it from the animal’s thigh. Duke then dropped the pieces of good meat near the pup, before continuing to pull pieces from the corpse in a calm, collected manner. Duke dropped another few good chunks of meat on the ground near the pup, before letting his tongue flicker out to lick the access substance from his chops. Duke then lowered his head towards the puppy again, ignoring the fact his great jaws could, quite possibly, scare the animal shitless. That was the pups problem, Duke was solely focusing on it’s survival. Whether it got out frightened or not was not an issue of his. Duke nudges under the puppy’s back a little harshly, compared to his softer nudge from earlier.
“Come on, pup. Time for you to stand up.”
He spoke gruffly, though there was an encouraging tone in his voice. Duke shook himself, before taking a step back from the little animal, to give it space. He respected young, only becaue they hadn’t had a chance to grow up yet. They were still especially impressionable. And this, to Duke, was always an opportunity. A chance to raise the perfect follower. Why not? Duke forced a smile to how maw, before reclining to sit back on his haunches, ears swivelling towards the pup. He didn’t care, to be honest, if the little animal didn’t feel like standing. It would damn-well stand up, and get over its weakness.
Duke would make sure of that.
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin, I must confess that I feel like a monster. I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun, I must confess that I feel like a monster...
Words: 808 Muse: FAIL. Notes: I'm sorry. This fails at lifee. I started out with alirght muse, but it just like... Died. Miserably. Dx
