And I can't tell if you're laughing Between each smile there's a tear in your eye There's a train leaving town in an hour It's not waiting for you And neither am I
the haunted beach was not so haunted as the sand kissed my feet as i silently padded through the sunlight alone. i have no one, and nothing. i do not belong to a pack, nor do i have any friends. i mean, i'm really bubbly and all, but no one has asked me to be their friend or join their pack. i don't understand. i smiled, and shrugged it off, knowing i will soon have a lot of friends soon. my pink tongue lolled out, greeting the sand with drops of slobber. my white and black speckled fur shone in the clear sunlight, glistening like the first star in the night sky. might want to make a wish. i joked to myself. the sea water lapped at the sand, and i realized how thirsty i was. my tiny paws gracefully guided me to the edge of the water, and i lowered my head to enjoy the salty water. though the water tasted of fish, salt, and foulness, i still drank it, due to the fact that i had been wondering for a while, looking for someone to talk to. i picked up my head, to scan the waters. though my thirst wasn't quenched yet, i shook the sea spray from my fur. i walked down the water's edge a bit, capturing the beauty of the scenery. i smiled at the gorgeous horizon which was laid out in front of me, and my heart sank a bit. this would be a beautiful spot to court, or to be with a lover. and i was here. alone. i scoffed, and lowered my head to drink once more.

Heavy belly hampered the me and I made my way slowly up the beach. Months of pregnancy and memories were finally catching up to me. Spasms had been wracking my belly for hours now and I knew my time was close at hand. For the millionth time I wondered what I was doing bringing these pups into the cold world that had killed their father, Dakota.
The spasms brought me to my knees, unable to go any further, I settled on my side in the sand and panted, pain rippling through my body and I threw back my head and howled to the sky. With that howl I said so many things. Pain, heartbreak, loneliness. Never before had I let out all of the pain, not in all the months this had been happening. I remembered happier times when none of this was ever wrong, life was good and Dakota was with me.

i heard a howl while i was silently drinking water, and i scanned the horizon until i saw a figure in the distance laying on it's side. i sped over to the rippling body, and i saw that it was a beautiful exotic dog, who was clearly pregnant, was about to give birth before my eyes. she was clearly in pain, and i had no clue what to do. my ears drooped, and my fur rose. my nerves were going insane, and i decided to introduce myself. hi, i'm kya. i see you are clearly in pain. as i don't know what to do, i believe all i can offer you at the moment is comfort and water from the ocean. i felt stupid for saying that, and my voice sped up gradually though out the sentence. i flashed her a faint smile, and plopped down beside her. i was remembering her howl, and it was full of sadness, loneliness, and pain. i wasn't going to leave her here alone, and i was going to be here to help her through the delivery of her pups. her howl sounded like she needed a friend, and that was exactly what i was going to become. i waited for a reply to see what i could help with.

Through the midst of her pain, the sound of approaching paws caught Sahara's erect ears. Never before had such a sound been so welcomed. The thought of another being coming to her in her time or need made the fae ecstatic. it also brought her great fear. She was so vulnerable. If this creature meant her harm, she and her pups had truly met the end of their hard journey.
As the small female approached her, sahara could tell that she did not mean her harm. The black and white dog had a soft look about her that could only be had through a soft soul. Some God above had heard her prayers and sent an angel to her side. To Sahara, nothing could be closer to the truth.
"My name....is Sahara....and water....would be amazing." she managed to pant out. The spasms kept coming and Sahara kept pushing. There was no way on this green earth that she was going to give up now. She'd come to far and now she had an angel at her side. [/blockquote]

the female looked like she was in so much pain, and i grieved for her, and said a silent prayer. when she said she was sahara, and she wanted water, i nodded, and sprinted as fast as my paws would take me to the edge of the never ending waters. the sun was beginning to set at the edge of the horizon, and i scanned the sand for a shell big enough to hold water to bring to the mother to be. finally, i found one, filled it up with the odd-tasting water. i padded to the fae, careful not to spill the water, as fast i possibly could. when i arrived at her side, her mouth was already open, and i could not speak with a shell in my mouth, so i gingerly poured the water into the mouth of sahara. i knew that that would not be enough for her, and i leaped to the water's edge to get some more. i returned to the rippling body moments later, and i felt bad for the pour creature. i felt bad that i could do nothing to subside the pain she was feeling. i poured the water in her mouth, and dropped the shell. i padded around to her back side, and moved her tail over with my paw to examine her, to see if she was ready to give birth. the canal was open large, and i knew it was time to push. though i have never been a mother myself, before i came to this land, i had assisted in the delivery of a few litters, and i knew what to do. i looked to her face, then back at her behind, and began to dig a small hole beneath the canal. i knew there was some time until she was going to give birth, but not a lot. right now, time is something i could not waste, so i scanned the sand once more, this time looking for a plant of some sort. i looked out to the waves to see if it was bringing in any sea weed. out in the foamy waters, i noticed a green substance flailing at the power of the waves. though the waves were weak, i was afraid that they would drag me out at sea if i went to get them. i washed those thoughts from my head, and knew this wasn't about me. i ran out to the water, 10 paces away from the green substance, and when the water receded, i sped to the what i know knew was sea weed, and ran back to sahara, the water kissing my paws as i went. i shook the water droplets from myself and the sea weed, making me bounce as i ran, which looked some what comical. i stood a her side, shook the sea weed once more, and placed it in the ditch i had dug. this was the perfect amount to cover the bottom of the small hole. i felt the plant with my nose, to make sure it was completely dry. i walked around to see her face, and stared into her pleading eyes, and i smiled. alright hun. you're going to have to start pushing soon, so we can get these pups out of you. i walked back around to her backside, awaiting the arrival of the pups so i can welcome them to the world.

Gritty sand covered her nuzzle, coat and paws as the sun set over the endless ocean. The colors of the light reflected off the water in blues, pinks, orange, reds and purples. They light up her vision with rainbow stars and she swore she could almost taste them. Her muzzle was parted slightly, trying to capture those colors and see if the rainbow really tasted as good as they said. Strangely, it tasted like salt water. It took her a moment to realize what was going on. Her Guardian Angel, Kya has somehow been carrying the water to her and pouring it in her mouth. The water tasted odd, bitter in a way, but it was water and Sahara was grateful.
When her vision cleared finally, the blinding light of the sun having passed, she could see Kya coming back with seaweed in her jaws, moving to place it behind her. She panted softly as she moved back to her muzzle. alright hun. you're going to have to start pushing soon, so we can get these pups out of you." the black and white female said. Sahara moved to nuzzle her kindly before she moved to her other end. The time had come. Taking a deep breath, Sahara pushed and pushes, keeping her cries of pain quiet, knowing they would not help her now. She panted hard and after what seemed like an eternity, it was over. The pups slid from her canal and into the world, breathing their first breath of freedom in the salty air. Two tiny males and one female greeted this world with softly little yips and Sahara turned to meet her pups with tender love and care that had never been shown to her. She licked them clean and turned her eyes to Kya and nuzzled her. She never would have been able to do this without her.

i smiled, knowing i had made a friend. sahara was going to make a great mother. just the vibes coming from her that i got, told me she was kind hearted, and sweet. i heard the tiny little yips of the newborn pups, and i gasped at the cuteness when i laid eyes on them. they just melted my heart. sahara showed great love to the pups that were just bestowed upon this earth. i felt the urge to nuzzle every one of them, so i did. then sahara nuzzled me. i smiled, and looked to the pups again. i spoke with awe as i said, they're beautiful. i wish they were my own. i couldn't wait to see them when they get older. i might end up being called 'auntie kya'. i giggled silently to myself at that thought, and sat down next to sahara. you did a good job there, momma. i smiled, and let my pink tongue loll out of my mouth, as my black and white fur pivoted with the embrace of the wind.
