Soft steps made by big paws, nearly silent as they made theyre way along the now familiar path to his home. Making his way to his den, where his love waited, heavy and pregnant, theyre pups soon to come. The large male let his tongue lawl from his black lips and over his sharp large canines. The heat was intense, the sun blasting its rays at the earth making it hot, and bright, soon though fall would be upon them. Bringing with it changes upon the earth, leaves changing colors and falling to the ground, prey going into hibernation. Many things would soon be different for them, and things would be harder, especially with pups to feed, and fend for. Letting his thoughts consume him the big great dane made his way slowly along the trail. He had been out scouting the land, to check for any certain dangers, he wouldnt let his mate come to any possible harm, even if theyre den was hidden deep within the woods.

Stepping carefully he let his mind snap back to the here and now as he neared the large familiar oak that signalled where theyre den was hidden, circling the tree he found the familiar entrance not far from it. Poking his nose in he sniffed, she was still there. Letting his head and body follow his nose he entered the den. A smile popping onto his lips as her familiar scent hit his nose, mingled with his very own, the smell of warm earth mingling into it as well. This was the smell he had come to know as home. That sweet scent made his heart ache to be near her, and set a feeling of security and relaxation upon him. his deep blue eyes scanned the medium sized den as he entered and went to where they slept. "Zephyr M'love" he said softly as he came in. Waiting for her response.

Zephyr lay in the warm den, silently thinking of her future, and past. And Journey. She loved him, and he was the only one she ever had, or ever would. Her large belly lifted as she sighed. Those were his children inside her, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She licked her belly, and softly whispered, "I will never let anyone hurt you." She pulled her nest tighter around herself and lay her square pit bull head on the ground breathing in the warm scent of the den...

I'm wonder-struck
Blushing all the way home

Zephyr lifted her head after a short snooze and smiled as she scented Journey coming towards their home. His large handsome body soon entered the den, and she stared at him. In the dim light, she could just make out his dark blue eyes that had enveloped her when they first met. His jaw parted as he greeted her. "Zephyr M'love."

[/i] She stretched her stocky legs in front of her, pulling her ears back in a large, whining yawn. "Hello, Journey. Have you missed me?" She asked in a laughing tone. She flinched as one of the lives inside of her moved. They were getting big, and seemed impatient to make their ways into the a less crowded world. She looked up at Journey with only a bit of fear in her eyes, and said, "I think it's almost time."[/blockquote][/size]

Journey smiled at his love listning to her soft voice. A smile crawling acrossed his jaws.His eyes twinkling. "That I have, I have missed you very much my love" he said softly. Leaning forward to touch his nose to her cheak gently. He was lucky to have love like this. To have this wonderfully beautiful female carrying his unborn children. To have this female smiling at him, loving him, and keeping his heart whole. He looked at her, love showing all acrossed his face. But as she spoke about it almost being time he stiffened, slightly worried. He didnt want to see her in pain, or anything bad to happen to them. Neither his love, nor his pups. Journey looked her over, her belly was swollen huge, and she surely looked close to having them, well as far as he could tell, that wasn't really his place of knowledge.

He made himself smile, with a little effort and lay down next to her. He snuggled close, but carefully. Not sure what would hurt her and what wouldn't or if she was even in pain. "How soon do you think darling? Soon as in today? or as in the next few days?" he said, trying hard to keep the worry from his voice. "Is there anything I can get you m'love?" he asked, taking a deep breath, he didnt want to panic, it would be her going through it not him, but he loved her so much, her pain was his pain. He kept his eyes on her watching her carefully.

Zephyr smiled up at Journeys concern. "I mean today, love." She whispered. She saw his brow crease with worry, and she fondly licked his chin. "Don't worry, I will be fine. I am strong because of you." She flinched again as that same pup kicked once more. "Is ther anything I can get you, m'love?" She heard him ask softly. She could feel his heart racing next to her, and opened her maw in a reply. "I am going to be really hungry after i have them, andit shouldn't take long... Will you hunt for me? And when you get back, only come in if I tell you, please?" She asked, not wanting him to watch her go through pain. She smiled at him, knowing that he would be worried to death, but she nudged his shoulder in reassurance. "I will be fine, Journey. I promise. These puppies won't wait any more. You're going to be a father." She said in soft excitement. She pushed the big dog toward the entrance to the den, trying to make him leave.

Journey watched her for a moment with wide eyes before her words broke thrugh his shell. "Yes of course my love" he said softly licking her nose. He was worried, and scared. He was going to be a father in a matter of minutes! "I love you I love you I love you" he said softly in her ear. "I shall return" he said softly turning to the entrance. He was shaking, nervous. He didnt want her to go through pain, but yet he didnt want to leave her alone either.
Taking a deep breath he lept from the den entrance and didnt stop running for a minute. Several times he almost turned around and ran right back in to her. But he made himself stay oput and do as she had commanded of him. He couldnt shake the fear that gripped his chest. He loved her to much for her to die on him, and he knew some females didnt make it through the process of birthing. But he had faith in his love, that she would be strong, or he hoped she would anyway.
He let his senses surround him and got lost in hunting her a large meal, to feed her, and keep her strong and healthy. Slowly he tracked a rabbits scent, he found a hole. a rabbit den, he stalked past it, watching and listning, creeping along silently. Until the familiar rustle of prey cought his ears. He launched himself into the air and landed dead on his target, killing it. He carried it back and waited outside the den, right next to the entrance for her to tell him to come inside.

Zephyr licked her new pups vigorously, making sure that they were fully cleaned. There were three of them, all black and white. Two were boys, and one was a girl, and they had all stolen Zephyrs heart. She smiled at them as they nursed. There had been no trouble during birth, and all three seemed to be pretty healthy, with plump bodies and big appetites. She wondered what they would be like, and licked the female again. She was moving away from her mothers belly, and Zephyr nudged her lightly back. The pup climbed over her siblings for a drink of the rich milk. She sighed. She was a mother now. That was something she had never thought would happen, but so was love. The only thing missing in the warm den was Journey, their father. She looked up at thought of him. He had returned a while ago, and she could hear him pacing nervously outside the den. She decided she was ready for him. "Journey, you can see them now." She said softly, but loud enough that Journey could hear her. She waited for the big dog to come in through the entrance and to the back of the den, her eyes starving for his.
