Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun ______________________________________________ The slow rocking of the massive ship was what caught most dogs attention as it floated idly in the harbor. Its massive deck was eerily still with the absence of man who once commanded the vessel. The massive hatch that would have once allowed plains from the lower hanger up onto the deck hung open so the massive ramp gave access to anyone brave enough to enter the ship. The sun hung directly over head signaling it was mid day. As such the paved surface of the streets and the sidewalks were burning hot. All the animals had retreated into the cool shade to wait out the hottest point of the day. Only the softest breeze blew off the ocean but it was hot as the day itself making the outdoor life miserable.
For that reason Veruna hung under the awnings of the abandoned store fronts that lined the harbor. She had been exploring and caught herself in a horrid area for this time of day. So when she saw the massive ship she couldn't help but turn her course and head towards it to seek refuge. She bolted over the paved areas and onto the wooden dock with a sigh of pleasure. She hated the feeling of the heat seeping through her pads, it was unpleasant at best. So with easy skill she trotted up one of the ramps that once gave humans access to their metal Goliath and smirked to herself looking across the deck. Curiosity had its claws dug in deep, there was no turning back now.
With a bay of pleasure she took off across the ships top deck. She stretched and ran full tilt making two brisk laps of the ships deck. She couldn't help herself, how often did one have the option of a perfectly flat place to run? Sure the streets were flat but time had worn pot holes into it and cracked it into enough gaps that a dog could trip and break her leg if she wasn't careful. So she enjoyed being able to run full tilt with little risk to her limbs.
She finished her second lap at the top of that ramp that lead below deck. Her ears lifted fully and she gave a shake of her elegant body. Her red orange eyes flashed with curiosity. How could you not explore it? The sun beat upon her patchwork body and she cocked her head. The light formed a perfect square on the floor lighting that part of the bottom level in harsh static brilliance. Lowering her head she could see deeper into the hold. Small pinpoints of light from portholes shown into the hull casting it in murky light as what did enter reflected.
With a twisted grin as she carefully placed each white paw onto the ramp. Her eyes flashed about quickly, making sure she wasn't going to be caught unawares. Her nose quivered as she slunk around and peered down each staircase that disappeared lower into the ship. Each step was quick, purposed. She was curious. The deck had old scent marks and bits of fur here and there showing other dogs, or wolves, had been here at some point or another. That was not of her concern right now seeing as old smells weren't of her concern.
Deciding she had searched the hanger space as well as she could Veruna turned her attention to the nearest stair case. The unknown called to her as she shifted in place. Honestly it probably was a bad idea. She paced to the edge of the stairs and dropped her head sniffing away. Well perhaps there would be something soft to nap out the rest of the high sun down there. If she waited out the day in the cool shade of the ship she could return to her scouting once it passed. With a lick of her lips, and nose, she bounded down the steps. When she reached the bottom she froze, listening to the sounds of her decent echo into obscurity, and second guessed herself.
The hallway she had walked into was lit, again, by portholes that looked in on the narrow hall. On the opposite side the long walk was bordered by doors, some of which were close and sealed shut, others stood ajar. For a moment her resolve wavered. She turned a circle, glancing back up the stairs at the hatch, ”What are you doing. It's not like a human will jump out of the hatch and eat you.” She scolded herself and gave herself a full body shake. With that it was decided, she was going to explore until she found something comfortable to lay on. So she set out at her usual brisk walk her eyes glued on the end of the hall. ______________________________________________ Lyrics by lady gaga

Retaining a steady pace, Mordecai aimlessly loped through the expansive harbor. Ever since venturing to the city, the male had taken a special liking to the ocean. Even though he had not the slightest idea over what it even was, it was just, interesting. His splattered coat stood out in a rather bold manner against the weathered road below him, but predators weren't at all the problem.
Fitting in with the hustle of the city had proven difficult. Far more troublesome than he had imagined. Even combined with his 'hard ass' attitude, being lonely wasn't exactly what he expected. Sighing, he surveyed over the land before him, taking in its splendor with a slight grin. However, his brief moment of bliss disintegrated as his keen scenting skills picked up a (fresh) trail. Mixed emotions flooded his mind, though before he could think anything through, he was off.
Tail stiff, he tore across the terrain in an instant. With only his sense of smell, and will to overcome his isolation, Mordecai made no effort to turn back. A minute or so passed, and the male had finally found where the trail lead. The massive boat was undoubtedly where the smell resided. But Mordecai was less than pleased.
It could take forever to find anyone in there, and that anyone could be someone who wouldn't take kindly to the likes of the dog. Putting facts aside, Mordecai leaped aboard the wooden deck. Feeling a tad unstable, he took a few minutes to grasp his bearings, and continued on his merry way. The scent was still fresh, a fairly good sign. Though the overbearing thought of running into someone that wasn't of a decent manner was beginning to take over his thoughts.
Grimacing, the male turned a corner, and peered down the long deck, Nothin... With yet another sigh, Mordecai slowly moved along, eventually coming upon a creaky flight of stairs. The scent was stronger than ever, once again, a good sign. Without hesitation, he stuttered down the unfamiliar structure, though what he discovered at the bottom was barely within his grasps of comprehension. Another dog, but she was different.
She exhibited the ever so recognizable markings of his breed, she was him. Mordecai could barely contain his hysteria, and with that, erupted a single bark from his throat. Of course, he hoped for her to turn around and leap at him with an uncontrollable urge to befriend him, but then he realized that would be terribly awkward. Though he didn't care, nothing mattered, he was going to have a conversation with this gal'. Rather it be good or bad. [/blockquote]

Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun ______________________________________________ Veruna had been on edge to begin with. Just as she was about to pop her head into one of the open doors, a bark came from nearly behind her. Every fur on her body stood on end as she gave a startled yelp and spun around. Her head dropped and her ears were down but her tail stood straight out. Her burnt orange eyes landed dead on the other canine and, for a moment, she just stared for a moment. It had been quite a time since she had seen another of her kind in quite a long time. So at first her head cocked and ears rose. Then she took a quick sniff of the air.
Her eyes widened and a grin broke out before she realized that this may or may not be a good thing. Her tail took a slow wag as she peered down the hall to where she could see the paws of what she could assume was another dog at the top of the stairs. She cocked her head as she stared up scenting. He had the very clear scent of their breed. Her ears slowly rose to stand huge over her head. Then she turned and trotted quickly to the base of the stairs to get a better look. ”Well hello there.”
Then she bounded up the stairs and circled him slowly her tail remaining half up and wagging slowly. She didn't show any signs of aggression. This was too important to consider him as friendly to start. She hadn't seen another of her breed in quite a long time. She paused so her back was to the deck and not to the stairs and she smiled lifting her head. She was excited to see another of her kind.
”Where did you come from then? Have you been in the area long? What's your name?” She rattled off very quickly her bright red orange eyes fixated on the other canine. Oh this was exciting she wasn't very good at the social side of things but she was too excited to sit still. She pranced from side to side unable to keep her feet still. All the pent up energy was threatening to explode.

Mordecai studied the female for several seconds, as she did the same. The tense feelings inside him were quickly becoming larger, but he heeled, and remained standing stiff. Before he could react, the she-dog was circling him, taking in his scents. He kept his tail low, showing he wasn't aggressive, but still reserved. Fortunately, she wasn't hostile. A fairly good sign.
After getting familiar with eachother's scent, she quickly began asking questions. Which, wasn't exactly something he was used to, be he complied anyway." I'm Mordecai, I came from a small place outside the city. And.. no, I haven't been here long." The male barked, cocking his head to get a better look at her. She was definitely his kind, that was for sure. He just, didn't know how to comprehend it, there were so many questions..
"Whada'bout you.. eh?" Were the only words he muttered, hopefully that would be all she needed to understand his meanings behind it. Putting other thoughts aside, Mordecai glanced back at the female, waiting for her reply impatiently. As he stood-by, thoughts seemed to pile upon each other by the milli-second. Maybe she knew even more wild dogs, maybe she knew where all the good food was, it was an odd thought to think that this one dog could be the answer to all his problems.[/blockquote]
