Sangre Del Angeles
Welcome to Sangre Del Ángeles. The City that truly never sleeps. Where good and evil walk nearly hand in hand, and the boundaries between both are blurred beyond recognition. This is a city with many histories, each overlapping and intertwining to create what now outwardly appears to be a humble almost sleepy city that seems almost mundane in it’s daily routine. Yet within its borders dwells all kinds of supernatural species who live alongside mortals without them even realizing it.
Sangre Del Ángeles was originally the site of the small, peaceful, Pagan civilization of Laurde. In the early 1300s, a group of settlers arrived by boat on the shores of this area, claiming to be sent in the name of Spain to begin colonization and renaming the area to Sangre Del Ángeles, in the name of Spain, of course (though it wasn't until at least 200 years later that Spain even began establishing colonies).
Unbeknownst to the Pagans, these settlers were not here in the name of Spain at all, they weren't even Spanish. These were members of an infamous cult, La Madre Oscura, of unknown origin who had been exiled from almost every other place they attempted to colonize, each time trying in the name of a different country or settlement, each time adopting a language they were almost sure the residents would not understand. This time, they had gotten lucky, these Pagans in their remote settlement had never seen or heard any residents of Spain. It was the perfect con. The cult members, the Oscuridad as they called themselves, could begin assimilating the Pagans without fear of being discovered.
When the settlers of La Madre Oscura had first arrived to establish their cult and bring about the eventual demise of the pagan civilization of Laurde, the Keep had already stood in ruin. Although not as decrepit as it currently does. At that time the walls still had a fresh fallen appearance to them, and the gold symbols were still sunken into certain stones at intervals throughout the architecture.
Once the ruins had been discovered by the Oscura they had raided the place of all it’s valuables without once thinking to ask why the Pagans had never taken any of the gold and riches that had been buried there. Nor stopping to ponder why the ruins appeared to have been blasted outward instead of crumbled in upon itself as most buildings that were as battle scarred as this one was usually appeared to be.
Although the fact that the outer walls were apparently nearly 16 feet thick should have made them wonder at this type of demolition.
Still, they had cleaned the place out of all its precious artifacts in order to melt much of it down into items of their own use. Many of the gold cross-like symbols that had been sunken into the rocks of the walls had been scraped out and were crafted into relics for the worship of their own goddess Madre, while other items had simply been scattered amidst the Oscura to end up forgotten heirlooms hidden in the attics and basements of families.
Something that had upset many of the Pagans immensely and caused them to whisper about the eventual demise of the Oscura.
Though completely self-sufficient, Sangre Del Ángeles prospered in a way no one could have predicted. The city grew and not a single resident dared to question the beliefs or the ways, not even when they were the chosen ones worthy of being sacrificed to the Madre. But even this was not enough for the Oscuridad, in the mid 1700s, a number of residents became missionaries, recruiting people as far as they could travel, in hopes of increasing their success.
This was the first mistake made by the Oscuridad in centuries, though they managed to attract a crowd, living only amongst themselves for so long had caused them to forget how outsiders viewed their practices. Appalled as the Pagans were when the Oscuridad first spoke of their teachings, the newcomers tried to stomp out the cult with a massacre. War was declared on the completely unprepared members of La Madre Oscura and the enemies triumphed, killing each adult they could find that refused to abandon their practices, including the elders and leaders, a handful of whom had managed to flee before the battle. Children and teenagers were allowed to live, simply because a common idea held was that their minds were still fresh and most, if not all, signs of corruption could be reversed. Unfortunately for them, they thought wrong. These young orphans rejected their faith in the open and accepted the titles of other religions only to appease the people of the new world, however, amongst themselves, they talked of nothing but the Madre and how they would bring her to power once again.
Now the Oscuridad is nothing but a faded memory to some who dwell in the city of Sangre Del Angeles, and to the rest it is a name only seen in their history books or on displays within the museum. Whether or not any descendants still exist is unknown. However, after half a millennium of imprisonment something was released when the Oscuridad ransacked the ruins and unwittingly took those items that had been used to keep it bound to those grounds. Freedom was not all that it thought it would be as there were still things that needed to be undone in order for ultimate power to be unleashed.
Now, something has been called, prophecies are unraveling, and the innocent shall be affected whether they like it or not because, hundreds of years after its release, something is coming home to finish unsettled business and finally break those ties that bind it.
